Over the next few days we speculated about why the hippo had come to Pukerua Bay, how it had got into our classroom and why there was no damage. (We know hippos are pretty big and clumsy). The children drew a sequence of pictures to show their ideas. They then wrote about what happened and some of the children published their work using Google docs or Google Slides. Here is a sample of their wonderful writing
Last week a hippo came to school and he smelled chocolate cake from Rua. He went on the roof and up like a ninja and down through the burnu trap and the mucee trap. There is the cake. At last I can eat all of it. But Mrs A came and the hippo was scared and he ran and ran until he bumped into Mr Lees. By Cassandra
Last week a hippopotamus escaped from the zoo. He is a naughty, naughty, naughty hippopotamus. Then he ate the cake. He used his superpowers to fix the door. By Orion

I had so much fun reading your stories about the hippopotamus eating cake. I am so glad you all got to eat some first! Keep up the fantastic writing, from Mrs Mitchell at Pt Chevalier School in Auckland.
